What is IVF?

In vitro fertilization is a promising treatment for couples who want to have children but cannot conceive spontaneously. In vitro fertilization treatment can be tried if the woman or man has certain problems, if the woman's age is advanced and the chance of pregnancy naturally is low. With this treatment, the woman's eggs and the man's sperm are fertilized in a laboratory environment. The embryo developed in this way is injected into the woman's uterus and the pregnancy process is expected to begin.

How is IVF done?

In vitro fertilization is a treatment method for couples who cannot have children naturally. This process, which requires several stages, generally develops by stimulating the woman's eggs, collecting them, combining them with sperm and transferring the fertilized egg to the woman's uterus.

Evaluation: Before starting IVF treatment, the general health status of the couples and their suitability for this treatment, the uterus and ovaries of the woman, and the sperm of the man are evaluated.
Medications to be used by the woman during her menstrual period and to stimulate the ovaries are prescribed. The follicles in the ovaries grow, resulting in the development of more than one egg.
Eggs are collected from the follicles with a fine needle and stored in a laboratory environment.
A sperm sample is also taken from the man and sent to the laboratory.
Eggs and selected sperm cells are brought together in a laboratory environment. Sperm naturally fertilize eggs. If this process does not occur, the sperm is injected into the egg by microinjection method. Embryos are formed by fertilization.
Embryos are transferred to the uterus. It is a painless procedure and a thin catheter is used.
A pregnancy test is performed approximately 10 days-2 weeks after embryo transfer. Pregnancy is confirmed by blood and urine test.
